Prominent political and religious leaders from around the world expressed well wishes and prayers for Pope Leo XIV after he announced he would undergo surgery to remove a lung nodule.

Pope Leo XIV appointed Oct. 10 Archbishop Vittorio Francesco Viola as the new archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica and the pope’s vicar for Vatican City.

This will be the 54th International Eucharistic Congress. It has been hosted twice in Australia already: in Sydney in 1928 and Melbourne in 1973.
