Nicaragua’s co-presidents are likely seeking a renewal in Catholic leadership, with clergy supportive of the regime populating the hierarchy.

While the religiously unaffiliated are on the rise globally, something curious is also happening: Some dioceses have reported significant upticks in adults preparing to enter the Catholic Church this Easter.

“We offer our prayers of support for all those in Three Rivers and (the) surrounding area impacted by this afternoon’s tornado,” the Diocese of Kalamazoo said.

“Being able to hold onto Hattie and pet her gives them an opening to talk about and process their emotions,” said counselor Krista Hale.

The Mass drew some 1,000 people to the Palm Beach Gardens cathedral, including family and friends of the ordained who traveled from the Dominican Republic.

The figures represented a significant surge in growth for the region, with the number of catechumens increasing by 35% and candidates by 95% over the last year.

The project will directly support dioceses and archdioceses to strengthen the Catholic Church’s response to mass deportations, organizers said.

“These norms for our diocese move us together toward the Church’s vision for the fuller and more active participation of the faithful.”

“To oppose the death penalty is to affirm hope — that no one, even a person who has committed a grave crime, is beyond the reach of grace.”

“When I look back over my life, I can see how everything has prepared me to serve you, to walk with you, and to love you,” Bishop O’Connell said.
