Suspect reportedly had expressed hostility and disdain for the Supreme Court, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Catholic Church and Jewish people.

The liturgy in the Vatican Gardens was a delayed celebration of the Sept. 29 feast of St. Michael the Archangel, the patron of the police.

So far, representatives from two charities have not seen a major impact on their operations or in the numbers who seek basic services.

The facility does not perform surgical abortions, but provides first trimester medication-based abortions using mifepristone and misoprostol.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of life,” said Cardinal Dolan. “The victims, those who were injured, and their families are in our prayers.”
